Understanding the Portfolio page

Learn what each part of the Portfolio Overview page does: date range, performance tiles, chart, grouping, columns, exports and alerts.

Updated over a month ago

The Overview page is your main dashboard to see your portfolio’s overall performance and holdings.

Use the numbered items below to match what you see on screen.

1. Portfolio name

At the very top left, you’ll see the portfolio name dropdown. Use this to:

  • See which portfolio you’re currently viewing

  • Switch between portfolios (if you have more than one)

2. Date Range Selector

In the top left above the chart, you’ll see a date range dropdown (e.g. All Time, This FY, Last 30 Days, Custom).

Changing this date range will:

  • Recalculate all performance figures on the page

  • Update the chart to start at the “from” date and end at the “to” date

  • Update the holdings list so it reflects that period

If your numbers look “wrong”, a trade seems missing, or a holding shows as open/closed unexpectedly, this is the first thing to check. (See How the Date Range Selector Works)

3. Performance Summary

Across the top of the page, you’ll see five tiles. These show your high-level returns for the selected date range:

  • Portfolio Value
The total value of the portfolio and the overall return % for the selected period.

  • Capital Gain
Dollar and % return from price movement only (buys vs sells) — dividends and distributions are not included here.

  • Income Return (dividends & distributions)
Dollar and % return from income your holdings have paid out in the selected period.

  • Currency Gain
Dollar and % return from foreign exchange movements (for international holdings) over the selected period.

  • Total Return
Dollar and % return from all sources (capital + income + currency).
The % value here matches the % shown under Portfolio Value.

Clicking any of these tiles will also change what’s shown in the chart below.

4. Portfolio chart

The middle of the page shows your Portfolio chart/graph.

  • It plots your performance over time for the selected date range and metric (based on which above Performance Summary tile you clicked).

  • You can hover over the line to view the values for a specific date.

  • You can view $ Amount or % Percent.

  • Use this to quickly see how your portfolio has moved over months and years.

5. Add Holdings button

On the top right of the page, you’ll see a + Add Holdings button.

Click this to:

  • Add new buys or sells

  • Import trades from a spreadsheet or broker (depending on your setup)

6. Group By selector

Just above the holdings table, on the right, you’ll see the Group By dropdown (labelled Holding by default).

Use this to change how the holdings list is grouped, for example:

  • Holding – each individual investment (default view)

  • Sector / Industry – aggregate by sector or industry

  • Broker / Account / Other – depending on what you’ve set up

  • Custom groupings – any group types you’ve created

This only changes how the list is organised — it doesn’t change your underlying data.

7. Holdings list options (toolbar, left to right)

Directly above the holdings table, you’ll see a small toolbar. From left to right:

  1. Currency selector (e.g. AUD ▾)

    • For portfolios with foreign holdings, this lets you toggle:

      • Base currency view – values converted into the portfolio’s base currency

      • Local currency view – show each holding in its own local currency

  2. Hide Sold Holdings ▾ toggle

    • When turned on, only open positions are shown in the holdings list.

    • When turned off, both open and closed positions appear.

    • This only affects what you see in the list — closed positions are still included in the performance calculations appropriate for the selected date range.

  3. Columns button

    • Opens the Column selector.

    • Here you can choose which columns to show (e.g. cost base, unrealised gain, yield, sector, etc.).

    • Use this to customise the table to the metrics you care about most.

  4. Export ▾ button

    • Exports the current holdings list (respecting your date range, groupings and filters) to XLSX or PDF.

    • Handy if you want to share a snapshot with an adviser or keep your own offline records.

8. Holdings list

The table at the bottom of the page is your Holdings list.

Each row represents:

  • A holding (or group, if you’ve changed the Group By selector)

  • With columns such as latest price, quantity, cost base, capital gain %, and total return in dollars and % for the selected date range.

This is the best place to:

  • See how each investment is contributing to your portfolio

  • Spot under- or over-performers

  • Identify where most of your gains, losses, or income are coming from

9. Unconfirmed income indicator

On the far right of each row, you may see a green notification button with a number inside it.

This indicates unconfirmed dividends or distributions for that holding.

  • Click the green button to review and confirm those income entries.

  • Once confirmed, they’ll be fully included in your income and performance figures.
