Invite a Client to Self-Pay in Navexa Pro

Learn how to invite a client to create and pay for their own Navexa account in Navexa Pro, using either an email invite or a share link.

Updated today

Use this guide to invite a client to create and pay for their own Navexa account instead of managing their subscription under your Pro account. If you previously thought of this as referring a client to Navexa, this is the same setup.

Note: This article applies to Navexa Pro.

It is written for Pro account owners and Pro team members who manage clients, portfolios and access inside a Pro account.

Before You Start

In Navexa Pro, Client Self-Pay Setup lets a client create their own Navexa account and handle their own subscription payments.

You can use this option:

  • when the client has no portfolios yet and you want them to set up their own account

  • when the client already has portfolios and you want to invite them to move to their own paid setup

Start Client Self-Pay Setup

Open Clients from the left-hand menu, then select the client you want to work with.

From there, the starting point depends on whether the client already has portfolios.

If The Client Has No Portfolios Yet

On the client page, under Get started with [Client Name], click Invite Client to Self-Pay.

If The Client Already Has Portfolios

On the client detail page, click Client Self-Pay Setup.

Send The Invite

After opening Client Self-Pay Setup, choose how you want to send the invite.

You can either:

  • select Send Email to send the invitation directly to the client

  • select Share Link to copy the unique setup link and send it yourself

If you are sending the email from Navexa:

  1. Check the recipient email address.

  2. Click Send Setup Invitation.

If you are sharing the link manually:

  1. Click Share Link.

  2. Click Copy.

  3. Send the link to the client yourself.

What The Client Will See

The client will receive an email invitation or open the setup link you shared.

When they open the link, they will be prompted to create their own Navexa account and start a free trial.

During the trial, they can choose their own plan, manage their own subscription payments, and, if needed, share their portfolio back with your firm, adviser, or accountant. They can follow How to Share a Portfolio with Someone.

If they open Navexa before they have set up their own paid account, they may see a No portfolios yet message and be prompted to choose a plan.

Important To Know

Sending a self-pay invitation does not automatically remove any portfolios already shared with that client under your Pro account.

If the client already has access to portfolios you manage, those portfolios can remain under your Pro account until you remove that access.

The client page can show that an invitation has been sent, but you should still review their portfolio access separately if you do not want those portfolios to remain under your Pro account.

What To Do Next

After sending the self-pay invite, you can:

  • resend the invitation if needed

  • copy and share the setup link manually

  • review which portfolios are still shared with that client

  • remove access to portfolios later if you no longer want them managed under your Pro account

Common Questions

Can I Invite A Client To Self-Pay If They Already Have Portfolios?

Yes.

You can still use Client Self-Pay Setup even if the client already has one or more portfolios on their client page.

Does Sending The Self-Pay Invite Move Billing Automatically?

No.

Sending the invite allows the client to create and pay for their own account, but it does not automatically remove any portfolios already managed under your Pro account.

How Do I Know The Invite Was Sent?

After sending the invitation, the client page can show that the invite has been sent.

You can also resend the invite if needed.

What If The Client Does Not Complete The Setup?

If the client does not complete their own paid setup, any portfolios still shared with them can remain under your Pro account until you remove that access.

If needed, review the client’s portfolio access and remove access when you are ready to stop managing it under your account.

Is This The Same As Referring A Client To Navexa?

Yes. In Navexa Pro, Client Self-Pay Setup is the option to use when you want a client to create and pay for their own Navexa account.
