Create a Portfolio for a Client in Navexa Pro

Learn how to create a new portfolio for a client in Navexa Pro, whether they have no portfolios yet or already have one or more portfolios assigned.

Updated today

Use this guide to create a new portfolio for an existing client in Navexa Pro.

This article applies to Navexa Pro.

It is written for Pro account owners and Pro team members who manage clients, portfolios and access inside a Pro account.

Before You Start

In Navexa Pro, a client and a portfolio are not the same thing.

A client is the person record. A portfolio is the entity or account being tracked.

Create a new portfolio for a client when:

  • the client already exists in your Clients list

  • the portfolio does not already exist

  • you want to create a new portfolio for that entity inside your Pro account

If the portfolio already exists, see Assign an Existing Portfolio to a Client in Navexa Pro.

If The Client Has No Portfolios Yet

If the client does not have any portfolios yet, open the client from Clients in the left-hand menu.

On the client page, you will see the setup options under Get started with [Client Name].

To create the first portfolio:

  1. Click Create a Portfolio.

  2. Complete the portfolio details.

  3. Click Create Portfolio.

If The Client Already Has Portfolios

If the client already has one or more portfolios, open the client from Clients in the left-hand menu.

On the client detail page, click Add Portfolio.

From the dropdown, select Create new portfolio.

Then:

  1. Complete the portfolio details.

  2. Click Create Portfolio.

Complete The Portfolio Details

After selecting Create a Portfolio, enter the details shown in the form.

You will usually need to complete:

  • Portfolio Name

  • Tax Residency

  • Entity Type

  • End of financial year

When the details are correct, click Create Portfolio.

The new portfolio will then be added to that client.

Important To Know

Adding a portfolio to a client does not automatically share access to that portfolio, you will need to select Share.

If the client needs access to the portfolio, make sure you also review their access and permissions afterwards.

This is especially important when a client has multiple portfolios, because access is managed portfolio by portfolio.

What To Do Next

After creating the portfolio, you can continue with the next setup steps for that client.

For example, you may want to:

  • add holdings or transactions

  • create another portfolio for a different entity

  • update the client’s access to the portfolio

  • use Client Self-Pay Setup separately if you want the client to create and pay for their own Navexa account

Common Questions

Should I Create A New Portfolio Or Assign An Existing One?

Create a new portfolio when the portfolio does not already exist in your Pro account.

If the portfolio already exists, assign the existing portfolio to the client instead of creating a duplicate.

Can One Client Have More Than One Portfolio?

Yes.

One client can have multiple portfolios if that person needs access to more than one entity or account.

Does Creating A Portfolio Automatically Give The Client Access?

No. Creating the portfolio adds it to the client record, you will need to select Share.

Can I Still Use Client Self-Pay Setup After A Portfolio Exists?

Yes.

Client Self-Pay Setup is a separate action. It is not the same as creating a new portfolio.
