Using the Holding Screen

Learn how to use the Holding Screen in Navexa to review one asset’s performance, trades, income, notes, settings, and available actions.

The Holding Screen shows detailed information for one selected asset in your portfolio, including its performance, trades, income, notes, and settings.

Open A Holding

You can open a holding from the Portfolio page or from the unified search bar.

To open a holding from your portfolio:

  1. Select Portfolio from the left-hand menu.

  2. Scroll down to the holdings list.

  3. Select the holding you want to view.

You can also use the search bar at the top of Navexa. Search for the holding name or ticker, then select the matching result.

Holding Details

The top of the Holding Screen shows the key details for the selected asset.

This area can include:

  • the holding name

  • the ticker symbol and exchange

  • the portfolio name, shown in a blue pill

  • the holding’s classification or sector

  • the last available price

  • the latest price movement as an amount and percentage

The price movement shows the latest available movement for the day or trading session.

The Actions button appears in the top right and is available across the holding tabs.

Holding Overview Tab

The Overview tab shows performance and market information for the selected holding.

This is the overview for the individual holding only. It is not a separate portfolio-level Overview page.

The Overview tab can include:

  • a date range selector

  • holding value

  • capital gain

  • income return

  • currency gain

  • total return

  • a performance chart

  • Key Stats

  • a price chart

  • related news, if available

Changing the date range updates the performance figures and chart for the selected holding.

The All Positions dropdown applies only to the Overview tab. Use it to switch between All Positions and Open Positions Only.

Changing this dropdown updates the figures and graph shown on the Overview tab. It does not change your trades, income, notes, or settings.

Trades Tab

The Trades tab shows the buy, sell, and adjustment trades recorded for the holding.

From the Trades tab, you can:

  • select Add Trade to add a trade

  • sort the trade list by selecting column headings

  • view trade date, type, price, quantity, brokerage, and value

  • see a trade note when the note icon appears

  • select the note icon to view the note

  • select the three-dot menu beside a trade and choose Edit

  • select a sell trade to open parcel selection, where available

When you add or edit a trade, the form opens from the right-hand side of the screen.

If the Trades tab shows a warning icon, open the tab to review the issue. For example, Navexa may show a warning when a holding has a negative quantity because some buy history may be missing.

Parcel Selection

Parcel selection is available from the Trades tab when you select a sell trade.

Use parcel selection when you want to choose which buy trades relate to a specific sell trade for Capital Gains Tax (CGT) purposes.

This is a more detailed tax workflow, so you usually only need it when you or your accountant want trade-level control over how a sale is matched to earlier buys.

Income Tab

The Income tab shows dividends, distributions, and other income recorded for the holding.

From the Income tab, you can:

  • select Add Dividend to add income

  • review income grouped by financial year

  • check gross amount, franking credits, net dividend, and reinvestment details

  • use the clipboard icon to see whether an income item is confirmed

  • select the edit option to update an income item

  • bulk select income rows to reset or delete selected items

A green tick on the clipboard icon means the income item has been confirmed.

When you add or edit income, the form opens from the right-hand side of the screen.

Notes Tab

The Notes tab stores notes for the overall holding.

Holding notes apply to the asset as a whole. They are separate from trade-level notes, which apply to one specific buy or sell trade.

You can use holding notes for:

  • investment strategy notes

  • reminders

  • research context

  • information about how you acquired the holding

  • other details you want to keep with the asset

To add a note, select Add, enter your note, then select Save.

You can add more than one note to a holding. To edit or delete a saved note, select the pen icon or bin icon beside the note.

Settings Tab

The Settings tab controls holding-level settings.

Depending on the holding type, this tab can include:

  • Trust Income

  • Exclude from Tax

  • Auto Dividend Reinvestment

  • Classification

  • Broker Name

Use Trust Income to set whether the holding’s income should be treated as trust income.

Use Exclude from Tax if the holding should not appear in tax reports.

Use Auto Dividend Reinvestment to control automatic dividend reinvestment handling for the holding.

Use Classification to set the sector and industry used for the holding. This affects how the holding appears in diversification reports.

Use Broker Name to set the broker for the holding. Setting a broker applies it to future trades and to any trades for the holding that do not already have a broker set.

Select Save settings after making changes.

Actions Menu

The Actions menu appears in the top right of the Holding Screen.

Depending on the holding, the Actions menu may include:

  • Rename Symbol

  • Transfer Holding

  • Add Merger

  • Delete Holding

Use these actions carefully. They can affect how the holding is labelled, moved, adjusted, or removed from your portfolio.
