Why “Dividend Reinvestment is not available for this holding”

What this message means, how to check DRP status, record broker DRPs manually, and when to request automation via the feedback board.

Updated over a week ago

When you see this message

On a holding’s Settings tab, you may see:

Dividend Reinvestment is not available for this holding

This appears under Auto Dividend Reinvestment.

It means Navexa cannot currently run automatic DRP for that specific security.

Why Auto Dividend Reinvestment is blocked

Navexa only enables Auto Dividend Reinvestment where there is an official dividend reinvestment plan (DRP) run by the company and its share registry.

If there is no official DRP, Navexa has no reliable data to know:

  • which dividends are eligible for DRP

  • the DRP issue price

  • the number of shares allocated

Some brokers and platforms offer their own internal DRP style service for securities that do not have an official DRP. From the registry’s point of view that dividend is still a normal cash payment. Because this DRP is broker specific, Navexa cannot see or automate it.

In those cases Auto Dividend Reinvestment is disabled and you will see the warning message.

How to check if your stock has an official DRP

If you are not sure whether your holding has a DRP, you can:

  1. Go to the company’s Investor Centre or Dividend / shareholder information page.

  2. Look for a section called Dividend Reinvestment Plan, DRP, or similar.

  3. Or log in to the share registry (for example Computershare, Link, Boardroom) for that holding and search for DRP information.

If the company or registry does not list a DRP for that stock code, then Navexa cannot offer Auto Dividend Reinvestment for that holding.

How to record DRP style reinvestments manually

You can still make Navexa match what your broker is doing by recording each reinvested dividend manually.

For an existing dividend:

  1. Open your portfolio and go to the holding.

  2. Click the Income tab.

  3. Find the dividend payment and click the options menu, then Edit.

  4. Under Additional Fields, tick Dividend Reinvested.

  5. Enter the Number of Shares and Share Price from your broker or statement.

  6. Save.

Navexa will:

  • update the dividend as reinvested income

  • create a matching Buy trade in the Trades tab

  • increase your quantity and cost base accordingly

Repeat these steps for each dividend that was reinvested.

Can Navexa automate my broker’s DRP service?

Sometimes a broker runs a DRP-like service for a stock that does not have an official DRP.

If your broker emails you a trade confirmation that clearly shows:

  • that it was a dividend reinvestment

  • the date

  • the stock

  • the quantity and price

then in future it may be technically possible for Navexa to automate this via broker integrations.

We treat this as a feature request. The best way to request it is through our public feedback board. That way:

  • other users can upvote the idea

  • our team can track and triage it

  • you will get updates on its status

The more popular requests are prioritised first, as that helps us understand what is most valuable to the community. While we consider all ideas, we do have to balance them with our available resources.

When submitting the request, it helps to mention your broker and whether their DRP trade confirmations consistently include the details listed above.

Think this is an error?

If you can see on the company or registry website that there is an official DRP for your exact stock code, but Navexa still shows:

Dividend Reinvestment is not available for this holding please reach out to support with:

  • the stock code and market (for example S32.ASX)

  • a link or screenshot from the company or registry showing that a DRP is available

We can then review the data for that security and update Navexa if needed.
