How to Set Up Dividend Reinvestment in Navexa

Choose how to track dividend reinvestment for a holding, preserve historical cash payments and find the right steps for your DRP history.

Set up Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRP) tracking for each holding to match the payments you actually reinvested. This guide applies after importing trades or adding a holding manually.

Navexa records reinvestment; it does not enrol you with a broker or share registry. For the basic explanation, see What is a Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRP)?.

Check Your History Before Turning On DRP

Automatic DRP can affect historical unconfirmed payments as well as future payments. Before changing the setting, open Portfolio, select the holding and open Income. Use your statements to identify which payments were cash and which were reinvested.

Before enabling automatic DRP, also check Trades for Dividend Reinvestment entries already imported or entered manually. Match them to the payments in Income so you do not record the same allocation twice.

Check and confirm existing cash payments that should stay unchanged. Confirm means you have checked the payment and its current figures are correct. It preserves those figures during normal automatic recalculation; it does not check or correct them for you.

If earlier reinvestments are missing, later cash amounts may be wrong. Recheck them after recording the extra shares, including payments already confirmed. The mixed-history guide below explains the correction sequence.

For Australian fund distributions, entering a final annual tax statement can still update confirmed records. See How to Confirm a Dividend or Distribution for this exception.

Your situation

Where to start

I have always received cash and will continue to do so.

Leave Auto Dividend Reinvestment set to No.

I have always reinvested and will continue.

Use automatic DRP where available, then check the calculated allocations.

I received cash first, then started DRP.

Check and confirm the earlier cash payments before enabling automatic DRP.

I am starting DRP from now.

Check and confirm existing historical payments that should stay unchanged, then enable automatic DRP.

Only a few payments were reinvested.

Enter the actual allocations individually from your statements.

I stopped DRP or switched between cash and DRP several times.

Choose How to Record Reinvestments

Automatic tracking and individual entry are alternative ways to record a payment. Follow the route that matches your history.

Automatic DRP

Automatic DRP applies a calculation method to eligible unconfirmed dividends and distributions for one holding. Use it when Navexa supports automatic reinvestment for the holding and you want it to calculate the allocations.

After checking your historical payments, follow How to Enable or Disable Automatic Dividend Reinvestment (DRP) in Navexa. If an intended historical reinvestment is already confirmed, use the individual editor to record its actual allocation.

Individual Reinvestments

Individual entry lets you record a specific payment using the shares or units and reinvestment price on your statement. You can use it with automatic DRP switched off.

Check the Completed Holding

Compare your reinvestments, current share quantity and subsequent cash dividends with your statements. Correct differences before confirming the payments. See How to Confirm a Dividend or Distribution for confirmation steps.

If you use automatic DRP, leave it enabled only while you want Navexa to calculate ongoing reinvestments. If automatic DRP is unavailable, continue recording actual allocations individually.
