If you have switched between receiving dividends in cash and reinvesting them through a Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRP), Navexa can record both on the same holding. Each past payment needs to match what you actually received.
Use the steps below whether you switched once or several times. Changing the holding’s automatic DRP setting alone does not tell Navexa which past payments you received as cash.
Missing earlier reinvestments can make later cash amounts too low. The steps below first keep cash payments from being converted to DRP, then record missing shares and recheck later amounts. Where possible, work through historical payments from oldest to newest.
1. Find the Payments You Received as Cash
Open Portfolio, select the holding and open Income. Compare the payments with your broker or share registry statements and identify:
Payments you received as cash.
Payments reinvested into additional shares or units.
Use the individual payment dates, especially if you changed your DRP participation partway through a year.
2. Keep Your Cash Payments as Cash
Before turning on automatic DRP, check that the cash payments are recorded correctly. If one is incorrectly marked as reinvested, open its ⋮ menu, select Edit, untick Dividend Reinvested, check the amount and select Save Changes.
Then select the checkboxes beside the cash payments and choose Confirm from the action bar at the bottom.
Confirm preserves the payment you have checked during normal automatic recalculation. In this workflow, it prevents those cash payments from being changed to reinvestments when you enable automatic DRP. It also preserves their amounts, so only confirm them after comparing them with your statements.
For Australian fund distributions, entering a final annual tax statement can still update confirmed records. See How to Confirm a Dividend or Distribution for this exception.
Select only the payments you want to preserve. The example screen below shows cash payments selected in Income, with Confirm in the action bar.
Also check and confirm any reinvestments already recorded correctly. Leave payments that still need an automatic DRP calculation unconfirmed.
3. Record the Dividends You Reinvested
You can let Navexa calculate missing reinvestments, or enter the actual allocations from your statements.
Let Navexa Calculate the Reinvestments
Use this option if automatic DRP is available for the holding.
Open the holding’s Settings tab.
Set Auto Dividend Reinvestment to Yes, choose the DRP Setting that matches your registry’s method, then select Save settings.
Check the reinvested payments in Income and the corresponding Dividend Reinvestment entries in Trades against your statements.
Work from oldest to newest. Correct and Confirm one reinvestment at a time, then check the next payment after Navexa updates the holding.
Navexa calculates eligible unconfirmed payments while preserving the payments you confirmed earlier. For the calculation options, see Understanding DRP Rounding Methods.
Enter Reinvestments from Your Statements
If you only need to correct a few payments, automatic DRP is unavailable, or a missing reinvestment is already confirmed, edit the payment individually.
In Income, open the payment’s ⋮ menu and select Edit. Tick Dividend Reinvested, enter the actual Number of Shares and Share Price, check any balance fields, then select Save Changes. Work from oldest to newest, checking and confirming each corrected payment.
You can do this with automatic DRP off. Full instructions are in How to Enable or Edit DRP for a Specific Dividend in Navexa.
4. Check Cash Payments After the Reinvestments
Earlier reinvestments increase the number of shares held for later dividends. If those reinvestments were missing, later cash payments may have been calculated using too few shares. Normal automatic recalculation does not update a confirmed payment to include those extra shares.
If a cash payment already matches your statement, leave it unchanged. If it is wrong, use Edit to enter the correct figures. Alternatively, to have Navexa recalculate it:
Make sure the reinvested payments you want to keep are correct and confirmed.
Set Auto Dividend Reinvestment to No and select Save settings, so the recalculated payments remain cash.
In Income, select only the cash payments that need recalculating. Select Reset, then Reset records.
Check the new amounts against your statements, correct any remaining differences, then Confirm those payments.
Reset removes manual changes. Do not reset correct manual figures or payments with final annual tax-statement components already entered.
5. Set DRP for Future Payments
Once the past payments are correct and confirmed, open the holding’s Settings:
If you are currently reinvesting and want automatic tracking, set Auto Dividend Reinvestment to Yes.
If you are currently receiving cash, or will enter reinvestments individually, set it to No.
Select Save settings. Check that the holding quantity, past cash payments and reinvestments match your statements, including any DRP balance carried forward. These settings control Navexa’s records; they do not change your participation with your broker or registry.
