Use Rename Symbol to connect an existing holding and its transaction history to the correct ticker symbol or exchange.
Before You Rename
Use Rename Symbol when:
A company changes its ticker symbol.
An investment moves to another exchange without changing the underlying investment.
You manually selected the wrong ticker or exchange when adding the holding.
Two holdings represent the same investment before and after a ticker change.
Do not use Rename Symbol for a merger, acquisition or demerger. Use the Add Merger tool so Navexa can record the relevant corporate action.
You also cannot use Rename Symbol to change between fundamentally different investment types, such as a listed security, cryptocurrency and custom investment.
Rename the Holding
To change the ticker symbol:
Open Portfolio and select the holding.
Select Actions in the top-right corner.
Select Rename Symbol.
Search for and select the correct ticker symbol and exchange.
Review the selection and select Rename.
If the selected symbol does not already exist in the portfolio, Navexa updates the holding while preserving its existing trade history.
Review the holding after renaming to confirm its symbol, exchange, value, trades and income are correct.
Combine With an Existing Holding
If the selected symbol already exists in the same portfolio with trades, Navexa will offer to combine the two holdings.
The Combine holdings screen shows:
The trades and shares or units in each holding.
The combined number of trades.
The combined number of shares or units.
Acquisition dates and cost base information are preserved. Income is recalculated over the combined transaction history.
Review the preview, then select Combine holdings. The original holding’s history will be added to the existing holding under the selected symbol.
Confirmed Income Warning
If either holding contains confirmed dividends, Navexa warns you that combining will reset confirmed income.
Combining the holdings will:
Unconfirm the affected dividends.
Recalculate income using the combined transaction history.
Potentially change previously generated tax reports.
You must select I understand this resets my confirmed income before selecting Combine holdings.
After combining, review the holding’s Income tab and reconfirm the correct income records.
Correct a Manual Mistake
If you manually added a holding under the wrong ticker or exchange, Rename Symbol is normally the simplest correction.
Use Rename Symbol when the recorded trades belong to the intended investment and only the holding’s symbol or exchange is wrong.
Deleting and recreating the holding is generally unnecessary in this situation.
Incorrect Imported Symbols
If a broker import or sync creates the wrong holding, you can use Rename Symbol to correct the existing data after checking that the trades belong to the intended investment.
However, renaming the holding does not correct the underlying importer or symbol mapping. A future import may create the wrong holding again.
Contact Navexa support if the problem is repeatable. Include:
The broker or import method.
The symbol and exchange created by the import.
The symbol and exchange you expected.
An example trade date or source file.
Do not repeatedly delete and re-import the same data if the importer continues creating the wrong holding.
Rename Symbol Rules
Exchange-listed investments:
Stocks and ETFs can be renamed to other exchange-listed securities.
A stock can be renamed to an ETF, and an ETF can be renamed to a stock.
A listed holding cannot be renamed to cryptocurrency or a custom investment.
Cryptocurrency:
Cryptocurrency holdings can only be renamed to other cryptocurrency symbols.
Cryptocurrency cannot be renamed to a stock, ETF or custom investment.
Custom investments:
Renaming a custom investment changes its label.
It does not connect the holding to live market pricing.
If the investment type is completely wrong, delete and recreate the holding using the correct investment type.
If a Holding Changes Exchange
If an existing investment moves to another exchange, you may be able to use Rename Symbol to connect the holding to its new ticker symbol and exchange.
Use Rename Symbol when:
It remains the same underlying investment.
Your existing trades and acquisition history still apply.
No conversion ratio or change to your share or unit quantity is required.
Before renaming, check the company’s official correspondence for:
The new ticker symbol and exchange.
Any change to the trading currency.
Any change to your share or unit quantity.
A conversion ratio, merger or other corporate action.
If the change involves a merger, acquisition, demerger or conversion ratio, do not rely on Rename Symbol alone. Record the appropriate corporate action or contact Navexa support if you’re unsure.
If the new symbol already exists in your portfolio, Navexa will offer to combine the holdings.
