How to Confirm a Dividend or Distribution

Learn how to review, confirm and reset dividends or distributions in Navexa, including how confirmed ETF distributions are updated by an annual AMIT statement.

Confirming an income payment tells Navexa you’ve reviewed the recorded figures and are ready to rely on them.

Dividends And Distributions

Companies generally pay dividends, while exchange-traded funds (ETFs), managed funds and trusts generally pay distributions.

Navexa uses Dividend as the shared platform label for both types of income. For example, you’ll see labels such as Add Dividend, Edit Dividend and Reset dividend, even when the payment is technically a distribution.

What Confirming Does

Confirming a dividend or distribution marks the current record as reviewed.

Once confirmed, Navexa won’t normally recalculate that income record when other portfolio data changes. For example, editing an earlier trade won’t automatically change a confirmed payment.

Confirming doesn’t change the recorded amount. It tells Navexa that you’ve checked the current figures.

An unconfirmed income record shows a grey clipboard icon. A confirmed record shows a green clipboard with a tick.

Do You Have To Confirm?

You don’t need to confirm a dividend or distribution as soon as it appears.

You should confirm it after checking the figures, particularly before relying on Navexa’s tax reports. Compare the record against your dividend statement, distribution statement, broker records or bank payment.

Check the following details where applicable:

  • Date Paid

  • Ex Date

  • Gross Amount

  • Franking Credits

  • Net Dividend

  • Reinvested amount

For ETFs, managed funds and trusts, you can confirm the cash distribution before receiving the final annual tax statement. The AMIT process can still update it later.

Find Your Income Records

To review the income recorded against a holding:

  1. Open Portfolio.

  2. Select the relevant holding.

  3. Open the Income tab.

You can confirm one, several or all income records from this page.

Confirm One Record

You can confirm an individual dividend or distribution directly from its income line.

Select the grey clipboard icon on the right-hand side of the record. The icon will change to a green clipboard with a tick.

You can also:

  1. Select the checkbox beside the income record.

  2. Select Confirm from the action bar at the bottom.

Confirm Multiple Records

To confirm several dividends or distributions together:

  1. Select the checkbox beside each record you want to confirm.

  2. Select Confirm from the action bar at the bottom.

You can use this method for one record or any combination of records.

Confirm All Records

To select all available income records:

  1. Select the checkbox at the top of the income list.

  2. Check the selected records.

  3. Select Confirm from the action bar at the bottom.

Confirming At Tax Time

For an AUD portfolio used by an Australian taxpayer, Navexa may ask you to confirm income while completing the financial-year checklist.

To review the checklist:

  1. Open Tax Reporting from the left-hand menu.

  2. Select Overview.

  3. Choose the financial year you’re preparing.

  4. Open the task relating to unconfirmed dividends or distributions.

  5. Review and confirm the relevant income records.

An unconfirmed record isn’t necessarily incorrect. It means the payment hasn’t yet been marked as reviewed.

ETF And Fund Distributions

ETFs, managed funds and trusts may issue an annual AMIT or AMMA tax statement after the end of the financial year.

AMIT means Attribution Managed Investment Trust. An AMMA statement is the annual statement showing the final tax components attributed to you.

You can confirm an ETF or fund distribution before receiving this statement. This confirms that you’ve checked the cash payment currently recorded in Navexa.

When you later enter the annual AMIT or AMMA statement:

  • The statement becomes the final source of truth for that holding and financial year.

  • Navexa can update distributions that were already confirmed.

  • Navexa applies the final annual tax components across the relevant distributions.

  • All distributions covered for that holding and financial year are marked as confirmed.

  • Gross amounts, franking credits, net payments and other tax components may change.

  • Capital gains, foreign income and AMIT cost-base adjustments may be added.

You don’t need to reset confirmed ETF distributions before entering the AMIT statement.

Reset A Confirmation

Resetting removes the confirmed status and restores the record to its original imported values.

Any manual changes made to that dividend or distribution will be lost.

Reset Selected Records

To reset one or more records from the Income tab:

  1. Select the checkbox beside each confirmed record.

  2. Select Reset from the action bar at the bottom.

  3. Confirm the reset when prompted.

To reset all available records, select the checkbox at the top of the list before selecting Reset.

Reset From Edit

To reset one dividend or distribution through its edit screen:

  1. Select the three dots beside the record.

  2. Select Edit.

  3. Select Reset dividend.

  4. Confirm the reset when prompted.

The confirmation icon will return to grey.

Incorrect Income Amounts

Navexa calculates income using the trade and holding history recorded in your portfolio. Missing or incorrect transactions may cause the wrong number of shares or units to be used.

To correct an amount:

  1. Open the holding’s Trades tab.

  2. Check that its complete trade history is recorded.

  3. Add or correct any missing transactions.

  4. Reset the income record if it was already confirmed.

  5. Review the recalculated amount.

  6. Confirm it again once it’s correct.

For an ETF, managed fund or trust, also check whether the final annual AMIT or AMMA statement has been entered.
