Fix the “You do not have write permissions” error

Understand why Navexa says you do not have write permissions, and fix it by switching portfolios or asking the owner to update your access.

This article explains why Navexa shows the write permissions error and how to get back to a portfolio you can edit.

What This Error Means

Navexa shows this message when the currently selected portfolio is read-only.

That means you can view the portfolio data, but you cannot add trades, edit settings, or make other changes.

The two most common reasons are:

  • You are viewing the Demo Portfolio, which is view-only.

  • You are viewing a shared portfolio and your access is set to Read only.

Check The Portfolio

This error often appears when Demo Portfolio is selected.

To check the selected portfolio:

  1. Open the portfolio picker at the top left.

  2. Check which portfolio is currently selected.

  3. If Demo Portfolio is selected, switch to a portfolio you own.

  4. If you recently created a new portfolio, make sure that new portfolio is the one currently selected.

Check Shared Access

This error can also appear when someone has shared a portfolio with you as Read only.

If the portfolio is shared, you cannot change this permission yourself. The portfolio owner needs to update your access to Read & Write.

Change Permissions

Contact the portfolio owner and ask them to open the sharing settings for that portfolio and change your permission from Read only to Read & Write. See How to Share a Portfolio with Someone for more help.

Navexa Pro

If the portfolio is managed through Navexa Pro, the account owner can update your access in Clients and give you Read & Write access to the relevant portfolio.

Still Seeing The Error?

If you still see the message after access has been updated:

  • Refresh the page.

  • Make sure you are logged in with the same email address the portfolio was shared to.

  • Confirm you have switched into the correct portfolio in the portfolio picker.

  • Ask the owner to double-check that your access is set to Read & Write, not Read only.
