Overview
In Navexa, Custom Investments can track income just like regular holdings.
Even though the button says “Add Dividend”, this form can be used for most income paid by a Custom Investment, including:
Dividends from private company shares
Rent from property
Interest or coupons from loans and bonds
Distributions from managed funds you track as a Custom Investment
Before you start
If you haven’t created the holding yet, follow: Add a Custom Investment.
How to add a dividend (income)
Open your portfolio.
Open the Custom Investment holding.
Example: Big Trev’s Hardware Enterprise Pty Ltd (private company shares)
Go to the Income tab.
Next to Dividends, click + Add.
Complete the Add Dividend form (see field guide below).
Click Add Dividend to save.
Field guide (what to enter)
Trust Income (Yes/No)
Set to No for most Custom Investments such as property, loans, bonds, and private company dividends.
Set to Yes only if the payment is a trust distribution. This commonly applies to Australian ETF or managed fund distributions.
Ex-dividend date
For listed shares, enter the ex-dividend date.
For non-listed assets (private company, property, loan), treat this as the date the income is earned or your entitlement is established.
Tip: If there is no clear ex-div concept (rent, interest), you can use the same date as the paid date.
Paid date
The date the cash was paid to you (when it reached your bank account).
You can enter future dates if you’re recording an announced or scheduled payment in advance. It will show in reports based on your selected date range.
Franked amount
Use this only for franked dividends from Australian companies.
If not applicable, enter 0.00.
Franking credits
Enter the franking credits attached to the franked portion.
If not applicable, enter 0.00.
Unfranked amount
For most Custom Investments, put the full cash income here.
Examples of income that usually belongs here:
Property rent
Bond coupon cash
Loan interest
Unfranked dividends
Additional fields (optional)
Use these when you need to record extra tax components (for example, withholding amounts or other distribution breakdowns).
Dividend reinvested (optional)
Tick this only if the income was reinvested into more units of the same investment (DRP style). Most Custom Investments will leave this unticked.
Exclude from Tax (optional)
Tick this only if you want the entry ignored in tax reports.
Example use case: You want it visible in the holding history, but it should not count toward taxable income in Navexa.
Notes (optional)
Add context like:
“Dividend payment Q2”
“Rent for April 2026”
“Interest payment for January”
Upload file (optional)
Attach a statement or document for record keeping.
Note: The file is stored with the entry, but it will not be read to populate the form.
Net Payment and Gross Payment
These are calculated automatically based on what you enter. You do not need to type into these fields.

Troubleshooting
If the Add Dividend button is greyed out or won’t save:
Make sure Franked amount, Franking credits, and Unfranked amount all have a value (use 0.00 where needed).
Use the calendar picker for dates and ensure the format is DD/MM/YYYY.
Dividends for Custom Investments must be added one at a time. Bulk uploading dividends isn’t currently supported for Custom Investments.
If you need to add or correct dividend entries later, follow: How to Add, Edit & Delete a Dividend.
