Use shared access to review your client’s Navexa portfolio and resolve gaps before using its tax figures. If you only received files, start with For Accountants: Work With Report Exports and Supporting Records.
Start With What You Have
Read the client’s message, supplied reports and supporting records first. Check the portfolio, reporting period, currency, legal owner, ownership share, entity and relevant tax residency. Ask only about details that are missing or unclear.
Australian tax reports require both an AUD-billed subscription and an AUD-base-currency portfolio. Availability also depends on the plan. These currency settings do not establish the client’s residency or legal ownership. See Navexa Plans (AUD): What’s included in Basic, Standard, Premium and Pro for plan inclusions.
How Records Enter Navexa
Clients can build their investment and trade history through:
Supported broker connections.
Automated contract-note imports.
Broker CSV or Excel file imports.
Bulk trade spreadsheets.
Manual records.
These are different input methods, and availability varies by broker and investment. A broker file import is not necessarily an ongoing connection.
Standard broker trade imports generally do not import dividends directly. Navexa can generate eligible dividends and distributions from the recorded holding history and available income data. Other income may need manual entry, while final annual fund components may need to be entered from statements. There is no general bulk spreadsheet importer into Income. See How Navexa Adds Dividends And Distributions.
Check the Supporting Records
Use the records relevant to the client’s investments and your engagement:
Broker statements and trade confirmations, including earlier purchases needed to support current holdings and disposals.
Dividend, registry and final annual fund tax statements.
Cash-account, exchange or wallet records where relevant.
Prior returns and capital-loss working papers.
Compare quantities, dates, costs, brokerage and income with these sources. Establish whether relevant accounts or investments sit outside the portfolio, using the information already supplied before requesting anything further.
Use the Tax Overview Checklist
Select the client’s portfolio.
Open Tax Reporting → Overview.
Select the financial year. For example, FY25/26 covers 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026.
Review the outstanding items under Finalise FY, alongside any preparation notes from the client.
The checklist highlights items to review. Reports can still be opened while items remain outstanding.
Generated or confirmed income, resolved prompts and locked years do not independently prove accuracy. Use the checklist to identify work, then check the underlying records. See Understanding The Finalise FY Checklist for checklist guidance and How to Use Navexa’s Tax Overview Page for the page controls.
Move to the Tax Reports
Report | What it provides |
ATO MyTax | A combined presentation of recorded income and capital-gains figures, with Australian individual-return labels. |
Taxable Income | Supporting income entries and tax components. |
Capital Gains Tax | Realised gains and losses, matched purchase lots and losses applied. |
Start with For Accountants: Understand the ATO myTax and Income Reports, then For Accountants: Understand the Capital Gains Tax Report. Use For Accountants: Work With Report Exports and Supporting Records when you need downloads, valuations, cost movements or transaction detail.
If records need correcting, agree who will update them and generate fresh reports afterwards. See For Accountants: Understand Your Access and Portfolio Settings for how your access affects this.
Remember, this is general information, not personal financial advice.
