For Accountants: Understand Your Access and Portfolio Settings

Learn what Read only and Read & Write allow, how your client changes access, and which portfolio settings matter to your review.

Your client chooses your access level when sharing their portfolio with you. Both access levels let you review their records and export available reports.

What Your Access Allows

Access

What you can do

If records need correcting

Read only

View portfolio records and download available reports.

Send the client the required corrections and supporting evidence.

Read & Write

View and export reports, and make permitted changes to records and settings.

Agree the changes with your client, save them and generate fresh reports.

Changes saved with Read & Write affect the client’s live portfolio and its calculations. Agree who will make corrections before editing.

How Your Client Changes Access

To change your permission, the owner must unshare the portfolio and share it with you again using the required access level. You cannot increase your own access or re-share the client’s portfolio.

If you see a write-permission error, check the permission granted before attempting the change again. See Fix the “You do not have write permissions” error.

Why Sharing Settings Can Look Empty

In your account, Sharing settings may say This portfolio is not shared with anyone. This does not mean your access has failed. The owner manages recipients and permissions from their own account.

Tax settings are separate from performance settings and the CGT report’s sale allocation settings.

Review sale allocation and capital-loss settings in the Capital Gains Tax report. See Capital Gains Tax Settings for the controls, or For Accountants: Understand the Capital Gains Tax Report for how to read the results.

Next, use For Accountants: Review Your Client’s Portfolio for Tax Time to review the portfolio’s records and tax preparation.
